Immediate Steps to Take When Someone Faints
Check responsiveness – Gently tap the person and ask if they’re okay.
Lay them down – If they’re unconscious, carefully lay them flat on their back to restore blood flow to the brain.
Elevate the legs – Raise their legs about 12 inches above heart level, if possible, to help improve circulation.
Loosen tight clothing – This makes breathing easier and helps them regain consciousness faster.
Check breathing – Make sure they are breathing normally. If they are not breathing, call 911 immediately and begin CPR.
Stay with them – Most people regain consciousness within a minute. Stay close, reassure them, and encourage them to remain lying down until they feel better.
Seek medical help if needed – Call emergency services if the person:
Does not regain consciousness quickly.
Has chest pain, difficulty breathing, or confusion.
Has underlying health conditions or is pregnant.
